I'm So Glad You're Here
I found my own path in the college counseling field and have grown tremendously along the way. I’ve had the privilege of guiding students and families through one of life’s most meaningful transitions, and I remain deeply inspired by the growth, resilience, and potential I see in each student. I believe the college process should feel thoughtful and empowering, not overwhelming.
About Jessica
Mindful Steps College Counseling was born from a deeply personal and professional journey. As a lifelong educator, college counselor, and parent, I have experienced the college admissions process from every angle, and I understand both its opportunities and its emotional weight. Walking alongside my own child during this pivotal season reinforced what I have known throughout my career: families need more than strategy. They need calm, clarity, and compassionate guidance.
I have worked in the college counseling field since 2002, beginning in undergraduate admissions before transitioning into school counseling and independent college counseling. For 18 years, I served as a School Counselor at a boarding and day school in Ojai, California, where I supported students academically, socially, and emotionally while guiding them through four-year planning and the college application process. I have also worked as a University of California application reader, carefully reviewing both domestic and international applications, which is an experience that gives me valuable insight into holistic admissions review.
In addition to founding Mindful Steps College Counseling, I continue to serve students through partnerships with other college counseling organizations, supporting a diverse range of learners from high-achieving scholars to first-generation college applicants. My work includes academic and extracurricular planning, major and career exploration, balanced college list development, UC and CSU advising, essay coaching, and comprehensive application strategy.
I hold a B.A. in Business and Psychology from Mount Saint Mary’s University, an M.S. in Counseling and Guidance with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential from California Lutheran University, and a Certificate in College Admissions Consulting from the University of California, Berkeley. I am a member of professional organizations including NACAC, WACAC, IECA, and HECA.
Mindful Steps was created as a practice grounded in mindfulness, purpose, and student well-being. This work is not about chasing rankings. It is about helping each student find a college community where they will thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Success, to me, is measured in student confidence, family trust, and thoughtful decision-making.
I am honored to walk alongside students during such an important chapter, and I approach each partnership with intention, care, and belief in every student’s unique path.
